New sod lawn installed beside a walkway in Mississauga

Sod Installation And
Lawn Replacement

Old lawn and weed roots removed by machine, soil and grade corrected, Ontario-grown Kentucky Bluegrass laid the day it is cut. Over 300,000 square feet a year.

Kentucky Bluegrass, Ontario grown Cut fresh, laid same day Most lawns finished in 1 to 2 days Written 30-day care schedule

Site Preparation

A quote that only covers rolling new sod over what is already there will fail inside a season. Weeds grow back through the seams, and the sod never roots into compacted soil. What you are really paying for is removal, soil and grade.

When you compare quotes, check that each one includes machine removal of the old lawn, grading, screened topsoil where it is thin, and fresh sod laid the day it is cut. If any of those are missing, the numbers are not comparable.

Machine tilling and preparing soil before new sod is laid

Our Process

Most residential lawns are stripped, graded and sodded in one to two days. You get the schedule at the site assessment.

01

Site assessment

We walk the property with you, measure the area, check drainage and grade, and confirm access for equipment and sod delivery.

02

Strip the old lawn

Existing grass, weeds and roots are removed by machine, not scalped with a spray. Roots come out so weeds do not come back.

03

Soil and grade

We test the subsoil, add screened topsoil where it is thin, and grade the surface so water runs away from the house and does not pool.

04

Fresh sod, same day

Kentucky Bluegrass sod is cut at the farm in Tecumseth, Ontario, delivered and laid the same day in tight, staggered rolls.

05

Roll and finish

The new lawn is rolled for root-to-soil contact, edges are trimmed along beds and walks, and the site is cleaned up.

06

Care schedule

You get a written watering and mowing schedule for the first 30 days, and a phone number that answers if you have a question.

Watering And Mowing

New sod lives or dies in the first three weeks. This is the schedule we leave with every customer.

Watering

  • Day one: soak the sod and topsoil thoroughly. Lift a corner; the underside should be wet.
  • Weeks one and two: light watering two to three times a day so the sod never dries out.
  • Once rooted and mowed once, water daily in the early morning, then fewer days and deeper.

Mowing

  • First cut 10 to 21 days in, once the sod cannot be lifted at the corners.
  • Sharp blade, and never take more than a third of the blade height in one pass.
  • Keep foot traffic, pets and furniture off the new lawn for the first two weeks.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does sod installation cost in Brampton or Mississauga?
Sod installation in the GTA typically runs $2.00 to $4.00 per square foot installed, depending on lawn size, how much old material has to come out, grading and topsoil needs, and access. We measure on site and give you a written price before any work starts.
When is the best time to lay sod in Ontario?
Late spring through early fall gives the fastest rooting. With proper watering, sod can be installed successfully from early spring until late fall, as long as the ground is workable and not frozen.
How long does a sod job take?
Most residential lawns are stripped, graded and sodded in one to two days. Larger properties or jobs with significant grading take longer; we give you a schedule at the site assessment.
Do you remove the old grass first?
Yes, always. We remove the old lawn and weed roots by machine before any topsoil or sod goes down. Laying sod over existing grass or weeds is the main reason new lawns fail.
Where does your sod come from?
Our sod is Ontario-grown Kentucky Bluegrass from farms in Tecumseth, cultivated for up to three years and harvested in 2 by 4 foot rolls the morning it is installed.
How soon can I walk on or mow a new lawn?
Keep foot traffic off for the first two weeks. First mowing is usually 10 to 21 days after installation, once the sod has rooted and cannot be lifted at the corners.
Do you install sod for builders, property managers and commercial sites?
Yes. We sod new subdivisions, townhouse complexes, plazas, industrial frontages, school and sports fields, and we can supply and place topsoil in volume.
Which areas do you serve for sod installation?
Brampton, Mississauga, Caledon, Bolton, Vaughan, Woodbridge, Markham, Toronto, Milton, Oakville and Georgetown. If you are close by and not sure, call and ask.
